An exotic visit to the Kingdom of Crystal

Tuesday evening takes you on an exotic excursion into Glasriket - the Kingdom of Crystal. This is the home of world-famous glass makers like Kosta/Boda and Orrefors.

The evening starts with a guided tour of Kosta glass works, including a demonstration of the art of glass blowing. Visitors can also have a go at blowing their own glass.

For those wishing to bring something home, a visit to the glass shop is included, with discounted prices for ECOWS 2005 delegates.

And then, the evening feast!

Hyttsill in the Kingdom of Crystal

A venerable tradition in the Kingdom of Crystal. In days past, the blowing room was more than just a place of work. It was a meeting place for the local people, a place to drink and to eat - among other things, Hyttsill, hot-shop herring.

Dinner is served in the hot-shop, in the very place where daily masterpieces are created. Baked potatoes, herring, fried pork, sausages, lingon sauce, foaming drinks. Then, for desert, genuine ostkaka (curd cake) with strawberries and whipped cream. Music, song and other entertainment accompanies the whole meal.

Do parts of the menu sound terrible? Understandable, yet in reality this is a very special treat, often accompanied by an ice-cold locally produced beer, and perhaps even a snaps.

With roots from the days of the wandering hobos, the hyttsill is a tasty and exotic experience. The heat from the glasugn (melting furnace), traditional dragspel (accordion) music, and singing, combine with genuine småländsk food to significantly raise the temperature in the hytta!

Smaklig måltid!

(Pleasant eating!)
