Fundamentals of Next Generation
Web Services

Daniel Akenine, Architect, Microsoft
Windows Communication Foundation - WCF (formerly code name “Indigo”) is a Web services technology and unified API that helps developers and organizations overcome the challenges of building connected systems both within and beyond the enterprise.
Daniel Akenine is an architect in the Microsoft DPE team. Daniel is focusing on Enterprise, Solution and Infrastructure architecture.

Payment Monitoring Solution - web service in practice!

Thomas Lundström, Senior System Engineer, webMethods
Payment Monitoring Solution - A webMethods solution, based on web services, is used by wholesale and retail banks to monitor, in real-time, the end-to-end payment process for the thousands of payments per hour that these banks can handle. This solution also enables these banks to monitor their key performance indicators and report in real-time to their clients on service level agreements. Furthermore, Thomas Lundström, will present Web Service Management, what is it all about? A technical discussion around the capabilities required to implement a solid web service management infrastructure.

Combine Software Agility with Software Maturity

Ruud de Bruijckere, Technical Business Development Manager, Borland
Ruud de Bruijckere, Borland Nordic's expert on development processes, in particular Requirement Management and Software Configuration, will present how Borland's intregrated toolset enables agile development of web services.

Semantic Web Business Needs to Challenge the Research

Alain Léger, France Telecom R&D Rennes, France
Co-Manager Industry Area IST-NoE Knowledge Web

Alain Legér is co-project manager of the Knowledge Web project at DERI. He will discuss why Semantic Web technology is being increasingly applied in a large spectrum of applications in which domain knowledge is conceptualized and formalized (e.g., by means of an ontology) in order to support diversified knowledge processing (e.g., reasoning) by machine. Moreover, through the subtle joining of (cognitive) human reasoning and (logical) machine reasoning, it is possible for humans and machines to share complementary tasks. From a social and economic perspective, this emerging technology should contribute to growth in economic wealth, but it must also show clear cut value for everyday activities through technological transparency and efficiency. The uptake of Semantic Web technology by industry is progressing slowly. One of the problems is that academia is not always aware of the concrete problems that arise in industry. In contrast, industry is not often well informed about the academic developments that can potentially meet its needs. In this paper we present ongoing work in the cross-fertilization between industry and academy.

Informative and Dynamically Intuitive with Web Services

Thorvaldur Flemming Jensen, NNIT A/S
It’s still one the most challenging exercises to integrate and develop legacy systems in today’s enterprises. Making them informative and dynamically intuitive is even harder. Can Web services and SOA perhaps be of any assistant! This talk is about the possibilities using different technologies to deliver the different parts of the information chain, Thorvaldur Flemming Jensen, NNIT, will show us how.

Securing the Future With Open Industry Standards

Peter Roden, Director of Business Development, OASIS
Peter Roden is the OASIS Director of Business Development. In previous positions at MIT, he was the Operations and Systems Development Manager for MIT’s Project Athena, a $100M program that laid the groundwork for what has become known as distributed computing, extranets, and Internet applications.

Serviam to Present Project Findings at ECOWS

Peter Söderström, Project Manager, Serviam
Peter Söderström, Project Manager for Serviam, will present "Experiences from Serviam - a two year project about SOA supported by ten Swedish organisations and two universities".

3D with a 4th Dimension

Ulf Jansson, Senior Consultant, Sörman Information & Media AB
3D with a 4th Dimension By using "natural" semantics of objects (e.g. product items) in artificial three-dimensional scenes the usability and usefulness of 3D graphics in commercial applications can be increased.
When the spatial 3D-model of a part or product is combined with semantic information about it (semantic product properties) interactive manipulation of a 3D-item on a computer screen can be done in new ways based on the fact that each part "knows" where it can be placed in a given scene, or how it may be "plugged" together with others.

Ulf Jansson has during the last 15 years with Sörman Information & Media been involved in the processes of creating new techniques for efficient information managing and presentation for the indurstry and the Swedish defence.

The SOA Lifecycle Management Framework.

Mats Gejnevall, Certified Enterprise IT Architect, Cap Gemini
The Service Oriented Architecture (SoA) Lifecycle Management Framework divides the task of implementing a SoA in your organisation into a series of adaptable and manageable steps.

The framework consists of aspects areas such as architecture, processes, solutions, services and infrastructure and lifecycle phases such as preparation, development, delivery and governance.

DIP Project: SWS Applications in E-Banking, Telecom and E-Government

Dr. Laurentiu Vasiliu, DIP (Data Information and Process Integration with Semantic Web Services)
Dr. Laurentiu Vasiliu will present DIP (Data Information and Process Integration with Semantic Web Services) - an EC integrated project. It aims to implement Semantic Web Service (SWS) technology in a number of application sectors such as e-Banking, Telecoms and e-Government. The project is 18 months into a 3 year cycle and has now a clearly defined architectual basis for case study prototype implementations. WSMO, WSML and WSMX are the core SWS technologies. By the end of the project the defined e-Banking, Telecom and e-Government applications will be automated and augmented by Semantic Web and Web Service technologies.

Standards for PLM in the Extended Enterprise

Peter Bergström, Senior Consultant, Eurostep AB
Sharing information in the extended enterprise requires standards, both for information structures and access methods. When the scope is PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) the requirement is even stronger. ISO, W3C, OASIS and others have all been working to put such standards in place, and this presentation focuses on some successful experiences in combining and applying these standards for PLM in extended enterprise.

Integration creates new business opportunities!

Anders Kingstedt, Consultancy Manager, Know IT
The Swedish Dairies – Arla Food, Milko, Norrmejerier and Skånemejerier - turned to Know IT when they needed an integration solution to supplement a completely new business model. The talk will describe the “why” and “how” of the project, highlighting the challenges we experienced and how these were met. The talk will include a brief presentation of a new concept for building integration solutions – the Integration Factory™, a concept that makes use of Enterprise Integration Patterns.

Light Standards for the Swedish IT Industry

Pedro Capetillo, Coordinator, Light Standards project
The concept of Light Standards as a term describing organized implementation of generic standards in specific, applied scenarios, is the basis for the national Light Standards project in Sweden. The objective is to simplify integration between vendors' business software.
